Songbird Survival is the UK’s only national charity dedicated to protecting songbirds through science. Established in 2000, it translates research into action to drive conservation and inspires people to help songbirds survive through education and awareness campaigns.
PlanAid provides funding to support their educational programme that inspires children to protect songbirds. The Ruby Robin Award engages 40,000 children (ages 5–11) in hands-on activities about the most at-risk songbird species, aiming for 15,000 children to complete the award. Funding will help expand educational activity sheets, invest in technology upgrades, and run digital outreach to reach new families, schools and groups.

Bumblebee Conservation Trust is dedicated to reversing the dramatic decline of bumblebee populations in the UK by protecting habitats, gathering vital citizen-science data through schemes like “BeeWalk”, and empowering individuals and communities to make their gardens and green spaces bumblebee-friendly.
PlanAid is proud to support BeeWalk, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s flagship bumblebee-monitoring programme that has been running across Great Britain since 2008 and open to the public since 2011. Each month from March to October, volunteer BeeWalkers survey a fixed transect, recording the bumblebee species and numbers they observe. Their contributions provide vital long-term data that helps protect and restore bumblebee populations nationwide.
